Growing Lavender for Pharmaceuticals

Growing Lavender 1a

For millennia lavender essential oil was used for its pharmacological effects; anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, and antimicrobial, by the Egyptians, Hebrews Chinese, and Indian as medicine between 3000 and 2000 BC.

Nowadays we use it for its fragrant aromatherapy. That’s a mistake.

Ancient wisdom has become new again.

Lavender EOs are a coevolutionary product of lavender plants, functioning to protect the plant from herbivore attack, moles, deer, and insects, they elicit undesirable and potentially harmful effects on grazing animal and insects cells and bodily functions.

Currently, there is scientific research ongoing utilizing Lavender essential oils to treat cancer. This is the title of a recent scientific paper.

“Promising anticancer activity of lavender essential oil through induction of both apoptosis and necrosis.”

apoptosis (Cancer cell Death)

necrosis (cell injury that results in Death of Cancer cells)

Although research on the application of Lavender EOs as anticancer therapeutic agents is relatively new, approximately half of conventional chemotherapy agents have plant origin, with roughly 25% directly derived from plants, and 25% being chemically modified versions of phytoproducts.

Scientists are also using Lavender essential oil and a new antibiotic, here is a recent headline.

Growing Lavender

“The antimicrobial activity of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. essential oil against Staphylococcus species in a hospital environment”

The data showed that lavender essential oil reduced the number of bacteria in all hospital areas and that this phenomenon was significant in many cases. This evidence suggests the potential application of plant essential oils as natural products for sanitizing hospital environments.

One thing was found that surprised everyone. A single variety of lavender worked well but when combined with another variety of lavender it worked incredibly. Most antimicrobial activities of Lavender essential oil depend mainly on their bioactive single components which can inhibit the growth of microorganisms and/or completely suppress the pathogens. Some constituents such as carvacrol, γ-terpinene, and p-cymene are more effective when they are combined. The synergism between the aromatic plant components often plays an essential role in the effectiveness and reduction of the developing resistance of any pathogenic microorganism.

The essential oil extracted from lavender (Lavandula officinalis Chaix.), Lamiaceae family, showed strong antibacterial and antifungal properties. L. officinalis treats sinus and vaginal infections due to Candida albicans Berkhout and digestive disturbances including colic and helps to boost immunity.

Furthermore, the lavender essential oil was well documented for the treatment of abrasions, burns, stress, headaches, skin problems, muscular pain, and boosting the immune system. The lavender essential oil is chemically composed of camphor, terpinen-4-ol, linalool, linalyl acetate, beta-ocimene, and 1,8-cineole. Among the above-mentioned substances, linalool and linalyl acetate showed a sedative effect and marked narcotic actions, respectively. Also, linalool and linalyl acetate have great absorbing properties for skin during massages.

Lavender essential oil, in combination, is flying off the shelf on Amazon as a migraine stick.

Today there are lavender farms in Great Britain that are growing lavender exclusively for just pharmacological applications.

Here at Rocky Pond Nursery, we are doing the same.

As research has progressed, investigations have been initiated on how lavender can be significantly enhanced for its pharmaceutical properties of the Lavender essential oil.

Science has identified two ways so far.

Growing Lavender for Pharmaceuticals and Medical

By covering the entire field in plastic ground cover it adjusts the plant environment constraints and that increases yields and the concentration of beneficial compounds.

You don’t replant Lavender fields every year so the plastic ground cover has to last for ten years or more this is not cheap and requires a great deal of additional labor expense. But it works, we haven’t identified why yet— just that it works.

The aim is to manipulate the levels of essential oils to benefit lymphoma research.

The second thing is that by combining specific varieties of lavender we can produce an even more potent essential oil mixture.

But here is the issue, almost all commercial groups including lavender is planted with only one variety. Why so that the entire crop can be harvested at the same time. Different varieties necessitate more than one harvest event. And this requires more expense and machinery.

Here at Rocky Pond Nursery, we do both the plastic ground cover and multiple harvest dates to produce a high potency Binary Lavender Essential oil— designed for Therapeutic and pharmaceutical purposes; this is not just for aromatherapy–but much more.

We offer a unique Binary Lavender Essential oil that is very effective against bacteria, fungus, and viral pathogens.

Oil from any single lavender variety was effective against both MSSA and MRSA by direct contact but binary lavender essential oil produced much larger inhibition zones. Lavender essential oil medical grade can and be used in hospital studies as an antiseptic. It is an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial static, anti-fungal, and effective against viral infections.

When combined properly it is very successful in Migraine Pain.

Our oil can also be used in a nasal inhaler, to guard and protect against colds, flu, and viral infections.

It can make soap that not only cleans but kills harmful bacteria and viruses.

It can be made into a very potent wound healing salve. Lavender essential oil for thousands of years has been used in Balm of Gilead and was considered a universal cure. Try our new updated formulation of Lavender essential oil and use it for its therapeutic properties.

Use it to make a Chest Rub, a nasal decongestant, a cough suppressant. Get a better night’s sleep.
